Weekend Escape from Nairobi for the Whole Family

Nairobi never really stops. The traffic, the meetings, the noise, the notifications. Sometimes what your family needs is a weekend with open skies, fresh air, and nothing on the agenda.

Sandai Farm is just a few hours from the city, but it feels like a different world entirely. Whether you are looking for adventure, creativity, wildlife, or simply a comfortable chair and a good view, there is something here for every member of the family.

For the Soul: Slow Down and Breathe

Yoga
Start your morning on the mat with the Kenyan highland air around you. No studio, no mirrors, just open space and silence.

Painting
Pick up a brush and let the landscape do the work. Our painting sessions are open to all levels, from complete beginners to guests who simply want to reconnect with something creative. The colours of the farm have a way of surprising you.

Birdwatching
Sandai sits in one of Kenya’s richest birding corridors. With over 600 species recorded in the Aberdare region, every morning walk becomes a discovery. Bring binoculars or borrow a pair from us.

For the Body: Get Moving

Horse Riding
Whether you are an experienced rider or stepping into the saddle for the first time, riding through the farm’s open land is something you will not forget. Early morning rides in particular, with the mist still on the hills, are pure magic.

Archery
Surprisingly meditative, surprisingly addictive. Guests of all ages find themselves back at the range again and again.

Drumming Workshops
There is something deeply freeing about learning to play an African drum. Our workshops are joyful, energetic, and a favourite for families and groups.

For the Kids: Space to Be Children

Sandai has something increasingly rare: space. Real, open, run-until-you-are-tired space.

For the smallest guests there is a playground with a climbing tipi and a dedicated play area. For older kids, the farm offers archery, horse riding, drumming, and painting, all of which they can do alongside adults.

When energy levels call for something more relaxed, the games room next to the café has billiards, table football, table tennis, and minigolf throughout the day. Parents settle in with a drink or a bite to eat while the kids keep themselves thoroughly entertained.

Day Trips: When You Want to Go Further

Hike to Lesatima
Lesatima is the highest peak of the Aberdare Range, and the hike to the summit is one of the finest full-day walks in Central Kenya. The trail takes between four and six hours and rewards you with sweeping views over the national park. Along the way, wildlife sightings of elephant, buffalo, and antelope are common. It is also an excellent acclimatisation route for anyone planning to climb Mount Kenya.

Half-Day Safari at Solio Game Reserve
Just 25 minutes from the farm lies one of Kenya’s best-kept secrets. Solio is a private conservancy with one of the highest concentrations of both black and white rhino in the country. Half a day here is enough to see rhino, giraffe, zebra, buffalo, and if you are lucky, lion and leopard. For Nairobi families who want a genuine wildlife experience without a long drive, this is the perfect option.
